Car says Emissions Workshop on startup. Who wants to place bets on a MAF code?

Bentley forums say:
Here's what the Bentley CD suggests:
- Disconnect 5 pin harness plug at flap motor
- Switch ignition on
- Measure voltage supply between connector terminals 1 + 2
Specification: about 5 V
- If specification is not obtained: Replace Diesel Direct
Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM)
Before replacing the control module, I'd check all the wiring
between the flap motor & the ECM. Disconnect the ECM harness
plug and check the resistance of all the wires leading to
the flap motor (see attached image).
- Wiring resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms
- Check wires for short circuit to B+ and to Ground (GND).
Specification: infinite resistance
- If no malfunction is detected in wiring: Replace Intake
Flap Motor V157
I think I've actually seen this once before and ignored it, now that I think about it.
I'll find my voltmeter and give it a test according to the Bentley post; but I think I will ignore it until it becomes more frequent.
Damn monday car. The evil back driver door gremlin has spread to the engine compartment.

I've been living with an intermittent glow plug fault since about 30,000 miles. It comes and goes in monthly installments... If it's not an easy fix I'm sure you can live with the CEL for the flap.

Yeah. I am not worried about it. If it was really a problem it wouldn't go away. A monthly scan just reminds me that I also have a bad connection to the right rear tweeter, too :)

just to satisfy my curiosity, when you shut your car off, does it shudder with that fault?

You know, now that you mention it... it does kind of shudder.
At first I thought i was fuel related as I only noticed it on Diesel and not BioD. But sometimes it did it on BioD.
If a shudder is what I live with, that's fine by me. I noted that on my car it's happened 10 times, on the Bentley forums post the car affected it happened 24 times.

i would be concerned if that valve got stuck closed.i have seen that on passat 2.0tdi's.

What would be the tell tale that it got stuck closed?
edit: lemme guess, shuddering at shut off?
How expensive is the motor that actuates the flap?

Stuck closed?? Lack of air to the engine, probably would be very hard to start, if it would start at all. No power, poor fuel mileage. That flap serves a couple purposes, one is to help prevent a run-away engine since diesels will very easily run on their own engine oil... So that flap closes to act as a "throttle" and stop the engine in case of a run-away

stuck closed= no start,
stuck open=shuddering when turning off

Thanks to both of you for filling me in on what now seems so simple in concept.
I wonder if the motor has failed? You know, I had followed this lady's blog about her non-start 06 TDI... she lemon law'd it eventually, but I bet this was her problem.

I doubt it's a motor at all actually. It probably works on a simple vacuum actuator. But.. I really don't know...

Heh. Understatement. Of course it's expensive. It's a 2006 model VW diesel.
What doesn't ring "expensive" in a hardly 2-year production cycle engine that is out of warranty?
But many have differing ideas of expensive. Up to $200 is what I'd consider normal, above that I'll call it expensive. I'm hoping it's just a $200 part.
Found a TDIClub thread with a similar situation: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=201894
Part was found for $249 online; the dealer wanted $600+
So it's pricey.
