Okay. I had the ring guaranteed at $1200 from where I bought it. The same guy recommended try ebay for $2200 first, then come back if it didn't go. So far no bites, no buyer questions, very few views, etc.....
Basically I'm getting impatient. Plus the $1200 is more than I was hoping for anyway.
Check the poll, make a vote.

I voted 1200 is too low, except I don't think I would've bought an engagement ring on ebay. And #2 I have no idea what retail is on it. sounds like it's maybe around $2200. If that is the case 1200 is too low, don't fold your hand yet, stay in for another round, see if the pot gets fatter. You might regret throwing your cards away. If it's money to play with then you're really in no dire need of cash so holding on to it won't kill you. Plus diamonds don't depreciate. Stick it out a little longer.

Take it from someone who's been there, sell it now! Git rid of it and move on. Chalk up the loss to life's lesson.
You DO move on and life gets better.

I'm trying ebay of course first. 6 days left in the auction.

Got a few watchers but no bites yet. I didn't want to ask anyone I know to buy it because choosing a ring is special. Mostly dealers buy on ebay anyway, not individuals.
People have asked for info, so here goes:
it is a: .561ct Hearts on Fire:copyright:
Ideal cut, symmetry, and proportions
Color is an I, nearly colorless
Clarity is a VS2, not too bad
Negligible fluorescence
"HEARTSONFIRE42546" is inscribed on the girdle of the diamond
for security purposes
There is a significant amount of documentation (AGS) with this thing. It's set in a yellow gold 18k, platinum prongs. Replacement value as of November 24, 2004 was $3039.87, as of three days ago $3200.00.
Current best offer is $1200 from where I bought it originally, Jolly's Jewelers.
If ebay beats that, so be it. Reason I might not try craigslist is psychos trying to come "see it" then try to beat my ass and steal it. I like the idea of ebay or the guaranteed $1200 better.
I also have her wedding band. I'm keeping mine and have special plans for that bastard.

Alright... seriously Stan. Pictures are everything on eBay. Does not matter what you are selling. But.. if you are trying to sell a diamond you're gonna have to have at least one good picture. Get Drew to take some macro shots of the ring and then put it back on eBay. You'll get more offers........ Do NOT settle for $1200 for this thing. If you do you've been ripped off. Diamonds do not lose value, or at least not that much value.

As jnecr stated pics are everything on ebay, specially for something like this. Seriously, for something of this price and quality you need higher resolution pictures from several angles and they all have to be up close.
Good Luck with the auction!

Oh yeah one more thing after looking at the auction again. Keywords are just as important as the pictures sometimes. You might want to consider adding the word engagment or ring into the title. Just a little advice...might help or it might not.

i with jnecr and bizzy on this. you need more pics. im a gal and when i looked at the acution i wouldnt have even thought about placing a bid on it. i couldnt even see what the ring looked like. for all i know it could be something out of the gumball machine. make sure u get CLEAR pics from different angles. do the ring some justice as im sure its beautiful. and like they said... dont settle for under 2000. i can see eating something of the money you put into it but if it was appraised higher than that you better try to get something close to it.

Dude, I told you I'd take pics! Your auction sucks, I can promise you it will most def. NOT SELL.
Would you buy a $2200 ring that you couldnt even see?
Quote from Amber: "Who the hell is gonna buy that shit? I cant even see it!"
Again. I will take pics for you, just ask.

My camera is like $50 and sucks. It won't get close enough to show anything of detail.
I greatly appreciate any help. Just PM me or something to set something up.

I'm free anytime except this weekend.
But, as you know, I'm car-less so you'd have to drive here or wait for a time when I'm out in Raleigh.
Driving here for pics would mean you sell your ring.

Somebody messaged wanting the final price. BUT, they were international and wanted to use some escrow company they know of. I politely replied the buy it now cost and told the guy that ebay operates as a normal auction house, with a built in escrow, and that I would only use ebay since it is good at protecting both buyer and seller. I tried to keep him interested though. I did offer to change to international shipping IF he used ebay. Otherwise, no dice.
Sounded shady to me.

LOL, yep. Some of those guys can get purdy sneaky...
I've come semi-close lately to falling for the new(er) ebay scams...the one where a made up user (that very closely resembles a username you just sold something to) emails you with a complaint.
As soon as you mouse-over the links its quite evident what they are doing, still pretty sneaky though.

Did not sell on ebay.
Going tuesday for the $1200 at the originial jeweler. Think they must have a policy on what % they have to offer to their prior customers.

Do what you want dude, but taking it back to the Jewler is probably the worst idea yet.
...its your money though. Can't say Ive ever seen someone give up that much money for no reason, but whatever floats your boat:)
PS> Your auction got 552 hits...If you had better pics it would have def. sold. 552 is on the verge of obsurd for your auction. I bet every single one of those 552 people thought about buying but couldnt tell what the fuck you were selling so they kept on looking...

I just had a brilliant idea Stan.
Give me the ring. I will give you $1300 for it.
I'll list it myself, and you'll get more $$ - its win win:)
If you want we can work it out so if it goes above a certain point you'll get more money (say...if it goes above $2200, you keep anything extra).
Sound good? I'm serious BTW.

I'm amazed at your confidence.
Is it your ebay/photo skills, or is it also a knowledge of the jewelry?
All I'm good at is reselling textbooks.
I could post it again with your new pictures. Will you be at "mod day" today in GSO? If so I'll drive out today and meet you up.

Nobody has posted on it since last nite, so I posted in it. It's sprinkling now here in Raleigh. Rain would be a good concern. I'd still be down for a "look at our cars and drink beer" instead of a "mod day" if it was raining.
