I have a new 2008 GTI 2 door. Just took it in for a 5K oil change and tire rotation. After getting it back I notice a loud roar from the front end of the car. Pulling over to find out that both front tires are cupped badly. So bad I am now getting a small vibration at the front wheels. Looking this info up in the GTI owners manual aliments are not covered in the warntee. I have not hit anything with this car I take care of my ride. This seems like it is a VW problem with the rear end alignment. But Flow VW of Greensboro will not even take the time to even look at the car to tell me if it is their problem or mine.

I just cannot beleive that you buy a new car. Do the maintance on it that it calls for at a stealership and you get something like this. NOT Covered sir comment and pushed out the door with not even looking at anything. Screw you now get your car out of my service bay. Well thanks !!

Any comments ?

I called my salesman at southern states or Durham. Bring it in he tells me . I will see this afternoon what they can do for this. I will not take my car back to FLOW either.

Flow has the market on the Winston/Greensboro area so they can charge whatever the hell they want to. Pretty shitty business practice IMO.

Keffer charges $50 less for an oil change. And they're a REVO dealer.... pretty mod friendly if you ask me :). I want to Flow to get some new bolts for my DV, and the parts guy was like "Um, what do you need those for, leave your car alone."

because cars are appliances. you replace them, not fix them.

I'm a tech at Flow in Greensboro. I could take a look at it if you would like.

Edit: Which tyres do you have on your car. Bridgestones,Continentals,Dunlops etc. I have seen a few problems with the Bridgestones.

I have Bridgestones. The dealer where I bought the car from is replacing the tires. I hope I will not have anymore problems with them. What type of problms are you seeing with the Bridgestones ?

you might want to see if they will put the car on the rack and make sure it's not an alignment issue. I've seen cars come in with alignment problems and have a tsb for updated alignment specs. worth a shot at least...

I've seen a few problems with the Bridgestones cupping or light feathering on the inside tread and not have an alignment issue. We had one guy come in for a 5k service and complain of road noise on his Jetta and the rear tyres were cupped pretty pad. I did an alignment on it and the only thing that was slightly out was toe in the front. We put Continentals on it and he came back 6k later and did not complain of any noise. It still wouldn't hurt to have you alignment checked out.

The Tech at SS said there was nothing wrong with the alignment at all. But what I want to know is how in the world are you able to check the alignment with eat up tires on the car ?

The condition of the tyres don't have much affect on how the alignment is measured. As long and the car is level all around and its best to have all 4 tyre pressures equal, you don't need much else to check alignment. Was it all 4 tyres or just the front, or rear?

They just checked the rear:ohyeah:

Thats pretty sketchy:nfi:. If they are using V.A.G alignment software on a Hunter machine, everything is checked at the same time and individually adjustible.

Ok if you have cupping problems take it back to the dealer have them take care of the problem. Bridgestone has known about this problem fromm the get go. everyone that has bridgestones should take notice. The dealer reported back to me that the cupping problem bridgestone knows about it. they are not saying anything to keep the replacements down. The compound that was used on the original set of tires is no longer used. it is too soft.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it. I will never have another set of bridgestones in my life on anything.

I'm not having any cupping issues on my 2008 <crosses fingers>, but I will take heed of this. I had Bridgestones on my last car, a 350z and they were terrible.
