Ive got the sound of offroad tires coming from my front drivers side so I'll be ordering a wheel bearing probably Friday. Well, we all hate waiting on a part to be shipped so I decided to see how much one cost from my friendly neighborhood VW dealership. Ive seen wheel bearings costing between $50-60 online but I'd pay a little more for the convenience of being able to drive down to New Centre and pick one up....$140!!! Just enough disbelief to where I had to ask, " Is that for one?"
That is what you call a HELLA markup....

Doesn't surprise me. I've been given absurd quotes time and time again going to Leith VW.
Which dealership was this?

Both MJM and GAP ship very quickly. And MJM usually has free shipping to boot. If you would have ordered the bearing from MJM on monday, you'd have it by now.

Im thinking about just going to autozone and picking one up from there...along with the tool to remove the hub and bearing.
Saw a writeup for a MKIV jetta on vortex and it doesnt look too difficult

Not entirely hard, just a little time consuming.
For reference:

Free shipping! That tool is nessecary, or you could take the knuckle to Kitrells or something and have them press in and out the bearing for like 20 bucks.

I may go with MJM then because the one from autozone is $70. I want to use the tool in order to avoid having to have an alignment..and it makes me feel like a man

Having kids makes you feel more like the warden in an insane asylum without the benefit of drugs to keep the patients calm...lol.
They feed off of each other, energy-wise.
