I just got my car about a week ago, today was the first time I plugged it up to vagcom, for some reason vagcom sais that it cannot connect to the ecu. we plugged it up to my firiends car with not problems, so it can not be the plug itself does anyone know what the problem could be?:hrmm:

sometimes the plugs can be a biatch to connect to...just because your dongle lights up:D doesnt mean you have connectivity. You may have to pull out the two screws holding the obd plug into in order for it to connect so it can move around. The base of the plug or the screws may be keeping it from plugging all the way in. Theres only two screws to get the base out so give it a shot

I did take the two screws out earlier today to see if it would connnect, I still had no connection.

yeah if you have an aftermarket radio installed, remove the faceplace from it and see if that lets it talk. if so you need to take it out and cut the K-wire and tape it off to prevent problems down the road ....
If it was a MkV car and you had the eBay setup cable, I'd say the problem is your cable can't talk to a CAN-BUS vehicle, but that does not seem to be the case here.

aftermarket radio?
no it's not an aftermarket radio. this car had an apr chip on it before they couldent get it to pass inspection, so they had to change the ecu. from my knowledge the ECU is not a VW made product.
