thats a 73 regular beetle, oem equipped with a 1600 dual port and 4 speed with 3:88 final drive. most important shots would include a peek at the floor pans, especially the battery area, that rust on the quartes is common from water sitting in the rear vents.

worthyness q's would be does it have a title? how long has it been sitting? is the brake pedal still hold pressure? if engine does not run......does the motor spin over by hand? how excessive is the end play? ( end to end crankshaft movement, testable by yanking on the pulley) what shade of mollasses is the oil?

73 reg. beetle a little more desirable than a super but still not as desired as any older beetle.

assuming tha it does not run id say a low side appraisal would be $300-500 with good title.

in case you diddnt know and if anyone ever needs any assistance i AM THE aircooled guru.

the owner said it runs and drives great, new brakes all the way around and had a recent tuneup. oil changed about 500 miles ago. and 4 new tires. since the last time it was driven daily was about 3 months ago, its been sittin at a coworkers house since. only thing it needs is a battery.

haha joke at work is he said 1200 dollars and take over the payments u can have his wife too, the crew leader added, that for 5 dollars extra u can have his wife also...:dunceblock:

Tell him I'll give him $350 for it sight unseen. I want a second car as a daily driver to keep the miles off my Golf, just not wanting to spend an arm and a leg......

I have a super and it is better for daily driving b/c it has struts! supers cannot be lowered as low as a standard however. i prefer a super to a standard anyday, personally. the 73 in particlar becase it is a bastard year like my 2002. part costs in my experience between the two is at best $30 to $50 more for a super than a standard, still we're talking cheaper parts than mkI rabbit in most cases...

torsion leaf front suspension found on regs can ride just as nice as struts on supers. with the proper maintance and quality parts, keep in mind from the a pillars back supers are the same as regulars so everything there is equivilant. the biggest drawback on supers in my oppinion though is the suspension setup. true without proper maintnance and quality parts any front suspension will suck, but supers are notorious for 45mph shimmy which can be dirrectly associated to the uber wearing high maintinance front end, everything on a super front end wears about 50% faster than reg's and cost 50% more with 50% more parts to replace.

lower balljoints, controll arm bushings, strut mounts, struts, steering stabilizer, steering gear box(except 78,79 r&P) and steering knuckle are high wear items and any one bad can cause the uber sensitive front end to show the signs. supers are also super sensitive to aftermarket wheels, without the proper lugs and centering rings the slightest bit of off balance will cause serious shimmy. just about every aged super i have had my hands on (way more than i can ever remember) has had a slight to extremely dangerous shimmy, clunk, or rattle from the front end. my past customers walk in with a complaint of noise and shimmy, 600$ later after replacing most of the above items to repair, rarely can you get by with just replacing bushings or just one item. anyhoo, long story short supers are still great cars, and i may be making it seem like they are lemons,, but all in all reg's are better for the above reasons bottom line.

true, however I managed to test the front suspesion setup some years ago between the two. Bottom line was: where the super bent the rim, blew a tire, bent the control arm and jerked like mad, a standard would have bent its frame. Infact, the one following me did just that in this accident. So, I'm sold on the super personally.. which is good, cause no one else wants them, so more for me :)

Its also really, really hard to locate an aircooled at a sub-5k price that's had it's suspension looked at/worked on in the last 5 years this day in age.
