Do you have a picture of the fabric design you are gonna use? I want to do the same thing along with the pillars. I would've like the interlagos fabric used on like old school GTI seats. But the material is so damn expensive. So I came up with a few other ideas.

im keepin that on the DL, the last idea for a design i shared, and they got it b4 me. haha.

make sure your fabric is flexible and thick enough the glue wont bleed through.... u need it to be flexible so you can push it intooo the depressions and what not, like where the oh shit handles are etc...

im not exactly sure of that, i was going to order a yard and see what its like... its only 3.75 a yard. "brushed cotton canvas" is how its described. what that is, is beyond me

Well if anyones reading they can steal my idea im sure they are not new.

I think the pattern may be bit small though. In relation to the headliner. That and its wool. Too thick?
(PS Not trying to jack your thread I'm just trying to learn too.)

honestly... unless u are having a professional do it... i would stay away from patterns like that... high probability you will be redoing it unless you are happy with lines they just dont look right.... i speak from what i have seen in the past.

Eh it was just an idea. It's either that or checkerboard black/white. Id love to do interlagos but the fabric is astronomically out of my price range.
I didn't think that pattern would look too bad. But you probably know better than I do.

unless you have experience you probably end up with lines that end up wavy from stretching the material. but that color you could probably get away with it and not be very noticeable

1) I would also suggest not going with a plaid pattern if you have any form of OCD. Like you said, there is a high probability that the lines will be wavy.
2) How ever much fabric you think you need, buy at least 2 more yards for incidentals.
3)Be very patient. It takes a while. Dedicate a lot of time for the re-install. All thestuff comes out like a piece of cake and goes back in like a cluster fuck.
4) And find a good DIY, such as Interior Color Change in the MK3 forum
Good luck!

buy a small amount of any fabric before hand ( if you are buyin it online for the fact to see if it will work
on the surface you are going to use it on) belive me that is one reason i'm i Iraq with a car in storage with no
headliner. but it does let me think of a better idea, and have the money to do it when i get back.

its definatly not the best material to use. its not stretchy what so ever. which would make things much easier...
this is where i got the material from.

..you probably never thought you'd be glad to have such a small one huh? you should do a little write up as you do the
headliner. Ive got white headliner and at some point would want to redo mine.

did mine with some really thin fabric, over the good og headliner. i was drunk, have zero experience in this stuff and i think the headliner part turned out great. the pillars diddnt turn out so well, but if i had to do it again i could make it right.

** it should be noted that Tom has experience with spraying materials and thus did a nice job of not getting too much glue on there. :D
