While many of you may scoff at the idea of $3 a gallon fuel, for those of us who were a bit upset that Piedmont Biofuels went from $3.50 to $5.50 in under 3 months time (and is still, today, selling fuel for $4.70 a gallon); we have hope:
Triangle Biofuels Inc, located in Wilson, is selling B100 with antigel (my car didn't die this AM and it was below freezing last night) for 2.99 a gallon to the GENERAL PUBLIC.
That means no cooperative membership fees! The catch is they are only open M-F till 5pm, unless you call and sweet talk Barry into staying later (he did say he's there till 6pm often).
They aim to have a Raleigh pump open to the public this year. They also are supplying Piedmont Biofuels with their Biodiesel -- to which Piedmont then marks up and resells to it's members (for shame).
I know Barry from when he worked with one of Piedmont's Veggie producing outfits, Carolina Biodiesel. He's a good guy and boy was he happy to see me roll up Monday and get fuel.
The $42 I spent there made me feel good. Why? Because I could see where that the extra $1 per gallon went: Barry's salary, the other guy's salary (I can't remember his name!), the nice facility, the reactors. As the use grows so do the jobs, and we can't deny that for older diesels that is the best option to clean their emissions up. From what I gathered, and could tell from the color of the fuel, they're working with waste veggie oil -- so if you're vegan, these guys are up your alley (unlike Piedmont who went to chicken fat without notifying anyone).
