View Full Version : playing with springs

Travis, or anyone for that matter:
Is the yellow spring for my 007 okay to run. I think it's fluttering at fuboost a little. I watched the tach and the clutch is NOT slipping, yeah! It's pulling steady too, just the boost tops at 18psi then holds/flutters between 14.5psi and 16psi. I still have 20inHg at idle, which should mean no leaks anywhere. I also have the little metal wafers I could try as well to "preload" the current spring.
Advice? I'm gonna try this afternoon.
BTW, does the 007 top twist off, is seems like it's on there real good.

i wouldnt use the metal pieces if i were you...
You should have used the yellow spring in the first place, its rated for 15-23 psi. I'm guessing you are using the green spring, which is rated for 5-15 psi.
Which forge did you get? there are two different 007's, one with twist off top and the other i think has bolts of some sort.

Helke is right.
The green spring is designed for stock boost levels. The yellow is designed for chipped people.
Here are the specs from forge
Green - 5-15 PSI
Yellow - 15-23 PSI
Blue - 23-30 PSI
Red - 30 + PSI

Okay, yellow is in. Doesn't per se' "flutter any longer. Peak boost is at 18psi. Is that about right?

Yes. Add a downpipe and tip along with the stage 2 and the boost will go up.

Awesome. Thanks Travis on da hookup and the lemiwinks. Good work. It's pullin hard and really smooth. Dogbone goes in soon as I can get to a place with a table vise (spelling?).

since we are on the topic, travis, what are the metal discs for anyway?

Like I said before, the metal discs provide some spring preload, altering the spring rate by making it higher. But it doesn't make it as high as the next spring up in color.

for example the green spring and 2 shims is about equal to the yellow spring.

ahh ok... so if im getting a little flutter right now, should I try throwing a shim in there and seeing what it does? does the shim go on top or on bottom?
haha guess im still at n00b status :gt-bb-chongin:

That's already in the works, I knew that. I'm gonna get Travis to get me somethin once the ring is sold. Go with the standard VR6 deal with the single mass fly.

you should be fine with stage 1. It's when you get the downpipe and go to stage 2 that it gets risky with the clutch.
Just don't drive like a maniac everywhere you go (read: powershift) and that clutch should last a good while.

Yeah, I've never "dumped" the clutch since I've had the car. Also usually gently engage then roll slow up to a few rpms then hit it. I've only got a year experience at driving stick, so I am not too bold, usually pretty careful.
