So I have a couple questions about modding my 02 TT quattro and am hoping for some help. first I wanna put a set of wheels on (stock 6 spokes are pretty ugly) I have a basic idea of what i want but am thinking about backspacing the rear wheels, wanna run 265/40/18's...or wider and 245/40/18's on the front. and second is there an advantage/disadvantage to running the same size sway bars (25mm) on both front and rear oppose to larger in front than rear?

having the wheels in the back being that wide is pointless other than looks. you should have both the front and rear wheels be the same height, or close enough, a 265/40 is quite a bit taller of a tire than 245/40. PLUS, finding a 18x10 wheel that will accommodate that tire will be pricey... and the offset which you will be hard to find. so you'd need a larger spacer... which will then affect your performance.
the TT has a lot of understeer, running a rear sway bar will help counteract that, the stiffer the bar, the more it will negate the understeer, keep in mind though that it'll be more of a "tough" suspension. meaning what one wheel will hit, will also transfer that force to the other wheel seeing they're basically connected.
having a front sway bar will help with body roll, but shouldn't affect the understeer as much as a rear one would.
the thicker the rear, the stiffer it is, so with that in mind, your best bet would be to run a thicker bar in the rear and a smaller one out front.

Thanks man! I appreciate it.....but as far as the wider rear tires go. I wouldn't say that the wider rears would be pointless. I mean the wider the tire the better the traction right. I've been heavily infuenced by the DubAudi Gruppe, and Adam w the ALMS TT runs 235/35/19 up front ad 265/30/19 in the rear, in which i understand the 265's being a taller tire as well. I'm wondering if the offset will mess with the quattro system in anyway? I'm planning to turn my TT into a full out track car and am under the impressoin the wider rear tire would be useful, but thats still far in the future. I'm still open to any opinions/experience/advice....I'm still learning

its not the offset you need to worry about its the height difference. If you get too much of a differential between front and rear sizes(greater than 4%), the input shaft of the Haldex coupling will be continuously spinning at a different speed than the output shaft. This causes the coupling to 'load up' because it is essentially being driven from both sides. The coupling can tolerate it, but long term it means accelerated wear in the clutch pack.

Thanks again!! I had heard that it's in best interest to keep all the wheels & tires equal with any AWD car, but at the same time I've seen people run wider on the rear than front and say as long as the rolling diameter of the tires are the same than it's ok, in which i understand and can agree with. but yes I dont plan on goin Much wider on the rear max 275's and try to keep the fronts at 245's, but like i said "if" and when i plan on doing this may be a ways down the road...unless i hit jackpot $$$$ on something!!!

This is what I use to figure out different tire sizes to keep the systems happy

as long as the OVERALL diameters are really close, you'll have no issues with the haldex.
And really, I don't know why you want such wide rubber, afterall, you DO have AWD... if you're doing 18s, I'd go 225/40 in the front and 255/35 in the rear (preferably 8.5 in the front and 9.5 or 10 in the rear). These two sizes play well very nicely with each other.

this is the set up i run on the R32

yeah I know I have AWD but I'm just refering to to the future because I plan on running the TT as a track car. Which brings me to another question!!
As far as Audi's quattro system goes, mine is an '02 and am assuming the same Haldex setup as the MK4 R32, would anyone happen to know the power ratio to the wheels on this system? I've heard from 50/50 to 90/10!!! and If the Haldex Blue controller would be of any benefit to the TT?

The Quattro system varies torque split constantly. Under light load the car is about 90/10 (front/rear) but can go all the way to 50/50 split. The Haldex control boxes simply change when the torque transfers. It transfer a lot quicker and transfers more power. I have the earlier model street unit (orange IIRC) and it has been a great mod. The new blue box also engages 50/50 split under braking.
The benefit of all this torque vectoring is better turning and traction. The quicker transfer of torque means you can rotate the car and have better corner exit on loose surfaces as well. One of the better mods I have done to the car!

i would not run a wider tire in the rear, especially for a track car.. unless you like the understeer that will come with it.

yeah I think I'm strsying away from that Idea...if any difference it would only be 10-20mm. So could would I use the same haldex Blue controller for he mk4 r32 or is there one just for the TT? and if so where would I get one?

They are all the same, just make sure you get a Mk4 not a Mk5 unit as they are not the same. At all. Ebay, Whoretex, and HPA are your best bets really.
