View Full Version : shall I strip?

I'm starting to HATE the tan interior, with the water stains from the previous owner. I do not have a significant other to worry about, nor do I cart around massive groups of people. So the rear seat is staying out.

But, in the future I want it back in. ONLY once I replace/dye/superclean ALL the interior fabric. I've used the upholstry cleaner twice, and it has done nothing for the parts I'm trying to fix.

Sooooo......the golden question, should I strip the car inside of the following parts while I take on the task of cleaning/dying the pieces I want to do. This will take a LONG time to complete and do a good job of. The floor carpet is in nice shape, so it stays.

Parts that would be removed for the job:

1. Rear seats stay out
2. Rear door panels 1st, then do fronts next since they have to go back for the buttons and stuff in them
3. Headliner
4. Pillar fabric
5. My broken, rattly, tiny ASS glove box.
6. Center armrest, I'd much rather have a usable cup holder, I don't like straddling a cup/talking on the phone/eating a sandwich while trying to drive stick in traffic on I440

if you keep all the rear stuff out and want to build a rear delete shelf in there let me know I'll help you build it.

Awesome, thanks.

How does that work in a Jetta? I've seen the rear deletes in Golfs alot, but not a Jetta. I know people take them out of Jettas, but have never seen one done till I've done it now.

I've got about 120 pounds of stuff from that car in my apartment. Soon I'll have more inside the apartment than in the car:smack:.

the delete shelf is the same for the jetta as in the golf.

I say don't waste your time to pull all this upholstery and clean it, get a professional to do it if you are really that picky

although I think your car is in great shape... not sure why you'd go to all the trouble to take care of a few small things like what you mentioned

Really? I don't know why I'm so picky.

I just love the dark interior Jettas/GTI's better.

Not to Hijack the thread, but could someone post a pic of a rear delete? Sounds like an interesting idea. Wonder if it will work in my 4dr?

Under the Vortex FAQ section for MKIV - Golf/Jetta, there is a section for interior, and it has an article in there. More oriented towards the Golf.

I just re-did my rear delete in my corrado again. I was up till 3:30am last night finishing construction, I still have to tweak it a little, and trim it. I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow.

Don't dye the parts, replace them. I just finished redoing my WHOLE interior... seats, doorcards, headliner, dash kit, steering wheel, shifter, armrest, speedometer, etc.

I had grey upper interior, velour black seats, 4 spoke plastic steering wheel...

Where can I get new interior pieces. I would line the headliner, but just replace the rest. I was thinking a U-PULL IT yard of some kind. Find a Jetta with a dark interior, and go to town.

This is long term, not immediate. I'm trying to get input, help, feasibility before I dive in too far and get disappointed later.

that would probably be your cheapest and most feasible bet

If not, contact UndergroundVWParts on whoretex and I'm sure he could piece a set together for you.

Key word there: GOOD

Yeah...like there's many of those around.....but, that can be said about men too. Most women consider us pigish, arrogant, assholes who only think with the little head. Main reason I've stayed single. Just don't wanna deal with the BS of dating/engagement/marriage.

Ok, back on topic....Wes, the car is looking good man. Keep updating the posts. I'm getting some good Ideas on what I want to do with my raggity ass interior. Damn people who let their dogs run wild inside a car.

Do you still have the headliner and pillars in the car?
If so, think about recovering them with fabric of your choice.
I went from upper interior grey, to a solid black. Trust me, it changed the whole look of the interior.
Here's some examples of others...
