Howdy. I've got an 05.5 tdi with the BRM tdi. When we installed my boost gauge, we were stupid and drilled a hole in the 90 degree intercooler pipe that goes into the intake manifold. It's been about two years since the gauge was installed but now i have about a one inch tear coming out from the gauge tap. Makes a nasty boost leak. Anyway, I have two questions. One is, does anyone know where I can get a replacement pipe not from VW because its $120 for it. Plus they think it may have been updated so you have to buy the plastic hard line it attaches to also. Maybe and aftermarket hard line kit or something. My second question is where did ya'll install your boost gauge taps at? Did you tap the soft intercooler piping, or is there a "vacuum" line I can tee into?

Thanks for the help
Adam

Part number stamped on the back of the pipe is : 1C0 145 762 J
already tried google and ebay.

probably not going to find it anywhere except the dealer unless you can find one in a junkyard.

try this (junkyard search)

Mine was in the hard plastic "pancake" pipe further from the intake manifold. Seems to have worked OK, been there for four years and no problems. I have it plugged now as I don't have a boost gauge anymore... I'm guessing that the BRMs have this same pipe, I have a BEW, but the engine differences are pretty minimal.

did you drill and tap the hard plastic? how exactly did you do that?

thanks

Yeah, when I got Rocketchip I had them drill and install a barbed nipple in the pancake pipe. I think it's just glued in there, it's been so long that I don't remember anymore...

We did a tap on the flex hose ($32 - I checked price before I drilled) that comes up near the fuel filter. It worked fine, but I've since removed the gauge -- unnecessary for me :)

Have you tried sealing the crack with silicon? Replacing the pipe would be best but we're diesel owners, i've seen intercoolers held together with duct tape and JB weld before.

Get engineering and post up some pics!

I think what I'm going to end up doing is replacing the intercooler pipe with one from VW, and try to find a better place to tap into. Just curious, why did everyone remove their boost gauges?

I would put some silly-cone on it and cross my fingers but knowing my luck, I'd be a million miles from humanity and my car would do that super cool 30-something psi spike, and blow the hell out of it. Yep. Still doing that from time to time lol. Nothings fallen off yet either. I did have to put one of them super expensive flywheels in it though.

I put a gauge on the car to make sure everything was working correctly after the software flash. Everything worked great for a year, so I took the gauge back off...

No use for it, really. It was in the way when we collapsed the wheel for other drivers, it was cool at first but... meh.
