Seriously. I had this idea a while back, because since it's a MK4 chassis, dropping a MK4 TDI motor in it shouldn't have been too hard. Then upgrade the motor, 6 forward speeds and AWD? Excellence!! Then I heard about this:

hell yeah! I knew there were a couple around. You're right, it can't be that hard of a swap. Engine mounts and all that should be identical. I just hope that the PD engine they used is not stock. They better have put some more power in that engine before they went and put it in a TT.

Why? If the point is economy a tune isn't necessarily guaranteed to benefit you outside a long drive with cruise control.
Some people actually want a nice car that gets fuel economy. That's why the Passat came in the TDI, it certainly is not a fast vehicle with the diesel but it gets 34/38 pretty reliably.

Foxie, you can have the best of both worlds man....

Exactly. A tune certainly won't hurt economy. And why exactly are they putting a TDI in an AWD car if they wanted economy? That wouldn't make sense!

Touche to that. FWD if you wanted economy.
I guess the question is how tuned is it, if at all, and is it a BEW? That's really the only PD that can get an aftermarket turbo.
