50-60k miles on it, worked wonderful for me.

not sure how much i want for it. I will consider trades, my wife wants some nice wheels for her GTI..

be clever!

i might take an old beetle if it runs enough hehe..

What model of K04 is it? Do you have a manifold for said K04?

here are some pictures of the turbo. its a k04-001

the k04-001 fits on an OEM 1.8t manifold.

my camera just can't do it on the etched in numbers... I have a clean shot of the lable, but you can't see the numbers...

price with no trade?

I have some 15" avus wheels with about 50% tread but idk if I could trade those... the car needs wheels to drive lol

also how are the seals? Does this use the factory oil feed/ return lines, downpipe, and turbo inlet hose?

a4wdhybrid
December 6th, 2006, 10:51 PM
if you want to get right down to it...there are no "seals" in a turbocharger

they are called piston rings..and they are metal rings..almost like snap rings

yes..a k04-01 would use all factory componets

looks like youll need 2 new stubs, a cpl gaskets/crush washers

so where is oil leaking from on my turbo?

thanks for the wealth of info man... always helpful

a4wdhybrid

oil leaks around the rings

either from too much shaft play or normal wear i would assume

t3 but same concept.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COMPLETE-REBUILD-KIT-for-GARRETT-T3-T4-HYBRID-TURBO-b16_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ012QQitem Z220055668442QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

i've got an abd inlet that would need a thicker o-ring too...

the wife's gti is a 05 w/ 16" wheels.. 15" are just silly.... sorry :(

she want's it to go faster - but it's fine the way it is i think..

zero leaks on the turbo. what is pictured there is mess left behind from it sitting at different agles w/ old oil.

do it Eric. Don't let these winers tell you a k04-01 isn't worth it cause it is. Nice power increase with no hassles.

Evan-

Would a K04-01 be compatible with X+? Does it need any of the oil line extensions or DP extensions that the K04-020 requires? The -020 kit is a bit out of my $ range at the moment, and I have seen -01's go for cheap.

yes..a k04-01 would use all factory componets

Same oil feed/ returns, same downpipe, basically everything is the same as the ko3 except the turbo is just bigger

It looks like I am going to buy this as an early Christmas present sometime next week, t0ad and I are discussing pickup and whatnot... but j_sonel I will throw you a pm if I end up backing out from buying

GIAC makes software specific for the ko4 I believe, but I assume you could run X+ with it, maybe just bump up fueling some and play with timing. This is the route I think I will take if the ko4 flash from GIAC is too expensive for me right now.

So... anyone up for a turbo + maybe fmic install over holiday break? :gt-ogb-spank: :gt-ogb-spank: :gt-ogb-spank:

Thanks- I am not looking to pick one up soon, but I may buy myself a 30th Birthday gift in the spring  Are you planning on dynoing your car before the install? It would be nice to see the gained difference.

Vampire Cockroach
December 7th, 2006, 12:19 PM
haha well... it would definitely be ideal to dyno, but between buying this and a fmic and software and who knows what all else hardware i'm going to need, money is going to be tight

I am supposed to dyno on Sunday at evan's... but that may change if I start buying stuff... it would be nice and as of right now i am jobless sooooo idk

I guess it all basically depends on the price of ko4 software and fmic...

So the butt dyno would be your only proof of gains? I say hold off on the FMIC and get yourself a baseline number. :D

but wouldnt a front mount be pretty necessary to run high boost on a larger-than-stock turbo? The ko3 produces enough heatsoak already with the stock smic that it's worth buying a front mount, so I would assume its almost necessary with a larger snail

that being said, I guess its working in my favor that its cold this time of year...

I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary, but it's definitely favorable.

haha, no its for a friend! what kind of price can you get on it? we found it at eip for like $845. does he need larger injectors and fuel pump, and can he get away with running stage 1 revo for now?

Vampire Cockroach
January 31st, 2007, 09:05 PM
can he get away with running stage 1 revo for now?

he can, but i'd strongly recommend upgrading to a larger downpipe, 4 bar fpr, and a KO4 program bc its going to be very underpowered on Revo stage 1

no need for larger injectors and fuel pump, most likely

I'd recommend some kind of cooling/ methanol injection before thinking about those things
