The best place that I've found to find cheap MK2's is sitting in someones yard, I've gotten two free that way, and passed one of them along for free. just keep your eyes peeled for yard art, then go offer to solve the problem for them, most people have just assumed that no one wants it. So pay the $60 for a tow truck and your all set!

i rember my friend talking about a 1985 golf that he sold and the new owner is selling now. This thing was stripped down alot for autocross. what kind of project are you starting? i think it was gonig for around $500 which isnt that bad of a deal for it. it has a lowered suspension and the engine was a cis 8v with 70-80k original miles.
