its true:happydance:
if you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to go to a brewery and find out.
tasting rooms are usually quite a bit cheaper than the bars, open earlier, but close earlier
unless there is music playing.
Take Pisgah brewing for example, they have a huge outdoor stage and throw weekend festivals over there, and they have been voted best beer in wnc many times.tasting room can be hard to find, but the best places are right?
Green Man Brewery is another of my favorites, great beer, great prices, and free pretzels and mustard.
No music there but agreat place to watch a soccer or rugby game, and open pretty late.
word of warning, the LAB on lexington is expensive, and the beer is not great, the food is fantastic but the place is quite trendy with the tourists, and I dont mean the baseball team:happyspin:
feel free to post any of your reflections on your experiences

Spoken like someone who has never been to the Philly area :p. Craft beer scene up here is big. Anywhere there's good craft beer is a good place to be. We've got Yards/Troegs/Dogfish Head/Manayunk/Riverhorse/infinity others up here (I live within walking distance of Victory), all with pretty ridiculous beer lol. Even with my Homer Simpson-like tolerance, a 6 pack will usually get me drunk.

asheville has the best of many "things" actually.

"Best" is a lofty statement. It's a very good scene that's for sure. The Asheville area brews I have had were all great, but you're gonna have a hard time contending with places like Colorado.

asheville has been voted "beer city usa" 2 years in a row now, stealing that title from portland.
but yes, best is just like my opinion man
but many others as well
Philly has the cheese steaks on lock down, I'm not really a big fan of dog fish head, exept the old school barley wine
I am sure all their beer is better at the source. The stuff we get bottled here is not that great.Same with victory some of it is great, some tastes like cat piss. once again I'm sure fresh at the brewery is great.
we have a brewery, highland, they bottle and distribute, and the bottled beer from them is not that great, but on tap around town or at the tasting room, its great
Plus Philly is not really very local to most on ncdubs. Asheville and its gorgeous roads, and great beer is.
but like you said anywhere there is craft brew is a good place to be.
colorado has great beer too, I had some of my favorite beers in boulder, but once again not very close.
And on the same note, New Belgium is opening a brewery and east coast distribution center here as is sierra nevada.
Granted SN is a california beer it still shows that the whole nation recognizes asheville as a beer mecca.
So come on up and see for yourself, like LeVar Burton said on reading rainbow "don't take my word for it"
I'd be happy to give you guys a nice driving tour of the mountain roads and then a walking\stumbling tour of some of the local breweries, you will not be disappointed
Wedge Brewery, smack dab in the middle of the river arts district surrounded by local art galleries.
Has great beer ranging from a very mild easy drinking wheat beer "the wit" all the way to the 14% monster "the gollum"
Two 12oz pours of the gollum and you dont really want to drive and at about 8% the "iron rail ipa" is my favorite of theirs
not very big inside, but a huge outdoor area, great for watching the sunset or the graffiti roll by on the trains.
No food here either but there is usually a food truck or taco vender there, and saturday they show 80's movies projected on the side of a big box truck.
great place to be on a nice day

I might have to take you up on that sometime. Although I'll probably make the trip on my bike. Been meaning to ride the area for a while now.
I do like almost all the highland brews (oatmeal stout in particular). But I haven't been able to sample any of the smaller breweries that aren't bottling.
That being said, raleigh isn't all that bad for craft brews. My favorite establishment is the Big Boss taproom.

Was just in Asheville last week lol. Next time I'm around I'm definitely down. Anywhere with good beer is where I belong.
Also, Barleywine? Yuck lol. I'm an IPA fan, 90 Minute is <3.

Haven't been able to fork out the dough for 90 minute just yet (ya I'm cheap). I don't typically like IPA's either, but thoroughly enjoyed the 60 minute.

90 is much stronger because it's an Imperial. I'm paying minimum $5/pint around here, so the 90 isn't too bad price-wise lol.

I can't believe you just quoted Jordie........Asheville does have wonderful beer, and when you are done stumblin' around the River-art district, you should stop by the shop and nip the shine while elevating your mind...Craig....

Bells Two Hearted is close to my 2 hearts. But Asheville beer is the best. Go Highland!:gtbb2-bigspliff2:

Highland has a great tasting room at the brewery
huge!
live music,and a moonshine distillery
only open, thursday - saturday
but 4pm everyday,brewery tour free,and free tasting
this place is really nice, with all beers 3.50$ and always two taps of small batch beer you cant have anywhere else.
last week I had their oatmeal porter aged in woodford reserve whiskey barrels
unbelievably good!
the week before, mocha stout aged in wild turkey 101 barrels
on busy eves they have a food vender inside, and highland is very dog and child friendly if that is a concern
february is stout month in asheville, and Pisgah brewing is gonna have their bacon stout again!
come enjoy the mild winter, drive some fun roads, and quench your thirst with some great beer:superkewl:
and yes Bells is great, but like Philly, Kalamazoo is not very local to NC:poke:
and if I were to stay in the ashvagas area I would really be trying to get a job at sierra nevada or new belgium
ideally work for the constructors, then goto work for the brewery:MadJester:
