i woke up this morning w/ a mission..not sure why..it just felt like the day to do this..
i still wont be able to run anywhere near full boost as i still have 440's..so ill prob try to keep it around 15psi and keep an eye on the wideband...
still not completely done..my downpipe is about 1/2" from wanting to fit properly..so im going to have to crawl underneath the car and loosen it from the hanger and i dont feel like fighting w/ all that right now
so..i figured id take a break and post some pics
only issue so far besides the downpipe is the plan i had in mind for the air filter set up didnt work out as i had liked for it to..so on goes the screen for a little while..im going to have to order a 4" cobra hose
anyways..the most important part...pics...

P.S. Can you check Audi part prices at your job? I'm trying to figure out how much a TT225 exhaust manifold would run me, but I can't find any online. I also need to figure out if it will bolt up to my AWP, but I'm prett sure it will.

Can you get me a part #? I have an ETOS program on my computer, but its from like England or something and I'm not sure if I'm getting the right one. Where would you recommend looking for a k04-20 flanged manifold? I've tried eBay but I can only find K03 flanged TT manis. I guess I could go for a non VAG one if you know where I can find one. Sorry to hijack your thread btw, I can PM you if you want. Thanks for the info! :oddeye-hellyeah:

you do realize a ko4 and a ko3 use the same flange right?
vortex would be a good place to start
the reason ppl use a 225 mani is because of the placement of the flange on the manifold..not the actual flange itself
and why do you want a k04? thats a waste of time and money...do it right from the start..atleast a super 60 or 28rs and be done w/ it for a little while

well..i turned the boost controller way down when i installed it this morn
i was getting boost readings all over the place..then blew a hose off..reattached it and blew it off again...the clamp was effed..so i got a clamp from abe and was holding a nice steady 9psi on the way home
so i immediately turned it up some when i got home
i put a good amount of miles on it today driving to winston and back...so im not afraid to rip on it a little come tomorrow

Hmm. I was under the impression that you couldn't bolt a K04-20 to a stock manifold, but that you could bolt up a k04-01 to it. Are you sure you can bolt a K04-20 to the stock mani? Is the issue that it won't fit in the bay w/o the 225 mani, not that the flange is different?

i still have 440's..id feel way more comfortable w/ some 550's, 580,s or 630's...630's preferably
and i turned the boost up some when i got home..ill see how it acts tomorrow on the way to work boost and a/f wise
im not worried too much about a/f since it seemed fine w/ the 57 trim and the gt30 flows around the same amount of air..it just comes on sooner and will go longer so i think ill be ok
on the other hand..to rip on it everyday or @ the track i def want bigger injectors...for those 25+psi occasions

Placement of the flange on the manifold = won't fit in engine bay? I was trying to clarify what you meant by that. Did you mean it won't fit period or maybe its just hard to get at/ easier to use the TT225 mani. And, are you sure its not just the K04-01 that has the same flange?

meaning the placement of the flange on the manifold is different..meaning the flange is in a different location than your stock mani..i dont know how else to say it
if you are planning on doing this to your car though you have a lot more research/reading you need to do

Okay so the mani flange is not in the same place as on the stock mani. I understand that, what I'm wondering is why does that keep people from bolting up a K04-20 to the stock mani. Does the K04 not have enough room in the bay/run into other stuff if its bolted up to the stock flange?

It's the k04-20s compressor housing that won't allow the turbo to bolt up to the transverse OEM k03 manifold.

I've seen a few of the kits and parts online, however I don't have a lot of money cause of the whole college thing so I'm tryin to piece together most of what I do used or from salvage yards if I can. As for the K04 itself, I think some people have dynoed around 280 at the wheels and I'm really not looking to get more than that just so I don't have to get into expensive internal upgrading and stuff. Also, I just like the whole driveability/relability of swapping in a n75 operated K04 as opposed to doing a GT28rs/t3 super 60 or something of that nature.

how did it run this morning?
a4wdhybrid
June 26th, 2006, 08:31 AM
uh..yea...about that
i must have a boost leak or something...im not really sure
it was still only making 9psi this morn and i can hear the wastegate venting...it doesnt really sound like a boost leak but it could be..ill fool w/ it when i get off work
weird thing is that it was making more boost yesterday before i blew the hose off, blew the hose off, got it back on, and now only making 9spi..??? maybe i need to crank my mbc down some more..
the hose that blew off was the one right before the hard pipe w/ the signal for my mbc/wastegate...im sure its something totally useless..it always is
a4wdhybrid
June 26th, 2006, 01:23 PM
i think it was the setting on my mbc
i cranked it down some more and was getting close to 20psi before i shifted...not sure what it would hit fully spooled under wot...i never made it that far
that same hose keeps blowing off though...im trying to stretch it a touch more than what i was before...it fit perfect before...oh well..ill have to get a 2" section of exhaust tubing or something
oh well..all sources of issues have been discovered...just time to fix them now
and i need to add some fuel on increasing loads..it was running around 14.x..and when i shifted and started to come back into boost it was really rich...the ecu was trying to adapt i guess..it got a little better before i blew the hose off...i would still feel way more comfortable adding some fuel in though w/ cc instead of the ecu trying to add it
a4wdhybrid
June 27th, 2006, 08:51 AM
drove to work this morning...hit boost pretty good a couple times and didnt blow a hose off...step in the right direction :smack:
im still sorting things out w/ my mbc...although..18psi seems to be when the car starts to pull...and i watched the gauge shoot up quick a couple times :happydance:
a4wdhybrid
June 28th, 2006, 09:52 AM
car started dumping fuel in the cylinders just randomly driving down the road...wideband was showing full rich w/ smoke coming out the back and a terrible gas smell
so it looks as if my ecu isnt accepting an o2 sensor reading or my wideband that outputs a 0-1v signal has taken a crap even though the display part of it is still working correctly...i checked the connection for the narrowband output > ecu..everything seems ok there...theres always the possibility im totally missing something but i dont know what else to check
wideband shows full rich, fuel trims were +25%, and i had a too lean code...check block 031 (o2 sensor voltage) and it shows basically 0.0v..no signal pretty much...hold the throttle open for a little while and it stays full rich (w/ some nasty backfires) and after a few mins block 032 shows around +7-8% partial throttle after clearing codes/adaptation...the ecu has no clue whats going on
its always something...:smack:
i bought an o2 sensor bung..hopefully it will be here friday or saturday so i can get it welded on..im going to do a stock o2 and a wideband o2 as opposed to the wideband and using the output from the wideband controller to feed the ecu
feel better kevin? ;)
Yareka
June 28th, 2006, 09:59 AM
man, that blows. You checked all the things I woulda except I would be looking at the o2 connection under the car instead of the o2 bung as the culprit(edit..nevermind, I understand why you have the bung now). This still doesnt explain why your wideband is showing full rich while your ecu is getting lean codes(and adding 25% fuel).
Or do you think your wideband controller is messing with your narrowband ecu input?
a4wdhybrid
June 28th, 2006, 10:01 AM
Or do you think your wideband controller is messing with your narrowband ecu input?
its either messing w/ it..the ecu is effed and not reading the voltage..or the wideband isnt sending out a 0-1v signal
and the connection is on the firewall, right underneath the coolant tank..very easy to get to...gotta love longitudal stuff ;)

fyi advance auto should have part #42002 which is a spark plug anti fouler. If you cut the bottom off one it is a nice o2 bung if you don't need stainless.

longitudinal is teh roxor:D
With the opposite reading from your ecu and wideband...there has to be a wire that touching somewhere in connection.
and no I dont feel any better, I have to be somewhere today and I dont know if my car will start with the maf unplugged. Unfortunately, I wont get my inlet flange from atp until friday or monday so I wont be able to run my inlet pipe/maf/filter until then. Hopefully, intercooler will be in friday along with the map flange and I can be rocking wot by the 4th.

so i took the plx m300 out of the loop and stuck a factory narrowband back in plugged into the factory harness
started..ran 100x better...no smoke this time :) ..plugs are fouled as hell though and the wideband o2 was covered in carbon...ive got some seafoam..i might drive it some and then run some seafoam through just because
still running rich @ idle but thats to be expected since i reset the fuel trims..im sure it will adapt it back out as always
checked block 031...i was getting o2 sensor voltage :)
so it looks as if the controller in the m300 that sends the 0-1v signal is defective..still useable for a wideband though..which is all that matters
being able to diagnose the problem (read: vagcom) saved my ass
