Hey guys/gals, I just bought a 06 MKV Wednesday from Leith VW. I work at Autopark Jeep, so of course they took care of me. Thanks to Gerich for referring me here. Hopefully we can me up some time on a Friday night. Let me say, I've never owned a VW, but I have wanted a GTI since around 93 or so. My wife has always said "Stupid ugly car, no." Well I'm glad because I've driven them all and the suffering was worth it!! This car is absolutely amazing. I guess the only down side is the looks down really grab much attention, but that obviously isn't the reason I bought it. I test drove one a couple of months ago and was just blown away. VW nailed a homerun in my book. Jack McCausland was my salesman and I can't recommend him enough.
No mods planned any time soon as it was a rather clandestine purchase anyway. She just says it's ugly. I drove it in the rain last night for 2 hours just to drive it......
Anywho, some of you might know me for my Z28s in the past, Redlinez was my nick. I live in lovely Fuquay-Varina. My name is Mike St.Clair.

I'm sure Gerich will give you crap about spelling his name wrong but welcome to the site and welcome to VW. Definitely try to make it to the Roxboro Friday night at the end of this month. Should be one heck of a good time.

Hey...welcome to the site. Did you get the DSG or the 6 speed and what package and color?

Sorry Gerich. I came back to correct it and someone busted me. I have a 6 speed manual with 0 options. The only way I would have it.

Glad you found the site and joined our little community. You should try and make it out to the Roxboro dragstrip the end of this month. Check the meets and events forum about details. Although it won't be the same as your LS1 but I am sure you know that.:D

Yea, it's far from my last LS1, but you're right, I didn't buy it with any intention on comparing it. Simply put, this is the most fun I've ever had in one single car. I explored a little bit of what it could do playing with a turbo'd 240 SX last night. I was waiting on him coming down the on ramp from Capital to the outer loop. We seemed fairly even on a flat out run. He did have two other guys in the car, but mine is quite heavy with me in it. He had some mods that's for sure, it blew a flame out the exhaust.

I figured the usual suspect, sr20 turbo car. That one ran better than most I've messed with in the past. All I can say is this car is like a drug for me. The handling just doesn't make sense.

Thanks Guys/Gals! My soon to be 4 year old boy saw a new Passat wagon today and said "Daddy, that car is like yours". My wife corrected him, "No Andrew, that car looks nice. Your Daddy's is ugly."

ya'll bitch more than little school girls about got damn smileys! Damn! ;)
Anyhow, GTIs aren't ugly, it'll grow on your wife. I, personally, think the MKV is the best looking GTI in awhile. The MKIII and MKIV were both pretty watered down and drab in the styling category. I'm happy to see VW going out on a limb with the MKV.

The real reason is she just wants to screw with me. All her friends who have seen the pics told her they love it. It doesn't get any better than that!! It would look way better on Euro springs/Pro Kits and tinted windows.

Hahaha, what a low blow.
Tell her she doesn't have to ride in it if it's that ugly.:smack:

She enjoys trying to rattle my cage. For anyone who's not sure about buying one of these, don't hesitate. You'll be completely satisfied, I guarantee it. Being a service advisor, it has taken me years to figure out that no matter what it is, it will break or have problems. With that in mind, I couldn't be happier. At least I don't own an $80,000 Mercedes and bring it in for service......
