Is a VW Fox the same as a Jetta coupe?

I saw one and they look remarkably the same.
One I saw was a 93 1.8 liter 5 speed manual.
Only difference was the front I believe.

Did some research, seing the fox motor is mounter longitudaly/rear wheel drive (sp)
but basically the body is a jetta 2/4 door witha different front?

I thought they stopped making the Fox when the MKII jetta came out... or shortly there after ??

Fox and Jetta years overlapped, the Fox was a smaller car also. Fox engine is mounted north/south and is FWD.

yeah, the fox is a longitudinal motor, but it's FWD, and the front is different. I think it was a lower end model, but i'm not 100% on that one.

The Fox also came in a 2 and 4DR wagon. It was offered with the 1.6L Diesel engine. The Fox was one of the first Brazilian made waterwagens, i believe, and it was designed to be the cheap college car of the 80s (like the Beetle was in the 60s and 70s).

Very similar, yes, but the same... no. The North American Fox was actually a South American VW Gol. (No, I didn't forget the 'f'. It's a Gol). The VW Fox that was actually the same as the Jetta MkI was only for the South African market.
And of course, just to confuse you, the Audi B1 platform was also called the Fox.

Never came with a diesel in the US. Wagon was 2DR only for the US. Sedan was offered 2DR and 4DR. All wagons came with 4 speeds, sedans came with either 4 or 5 speed. There was a facelift in '90 IIRC, at which point the wagon was dropped and only the 2/4DR sedan was kept. Wolfsburg Editions were available on the sedans, but didn't really have much more than the base models - 5 speeds and maybe some little trim bits. All in all sold as a low end filler vehicle.

All US Foxes got the 1.8L 8v motor which was functionally identical to the Golf/Jetta powerplant, except for a donut shaped restrictor added to the exhaust in order to de-tune it.
