hey guys... im new on here. my car is a 97 golf trek 2.0

i've been trying to hit up local G2G's ever since my car came into somewhat decent shape, but i broke my distro. so i got a new one from BFI but i can't get my old one out. if anyone in the area (i'm at Duke) can help me get my old one out and drop in the new one, i'd appreciate it. will give beer in exchange for help. or pay you. or whatever... i just need this bitch to RUN!

PM me or call me at 646.283.1612 if you can help. currently, my car is sitting on the lot on the corner of alexander ave. and erwin rd.

broke the clips off. had trouble with ghetto rigging, decided to just do it right and got a new one.

wires are off, cap is off, rotor is off, the bolt with the hold down is off, hold down is off. it just seems to be siezed in there. sprayed some WD-40 on it, tried whacking away at it with a rubber mallet as much as i could... any ideas?

um, mallet bad..

can you turn the distributor clockwise/counteclockwise?
prolly seized from age..
or more by the mallet .:smack: j/k

if it's seized get some PB Blast and soak it overnight- that should help.

I don't know the location of the distro but can it be easily reached? if so maybe get a small prybar and "gently" try to pry it upwards , be carefull not to do it one sided.

I had to do that to my 351C when i had to replace the distributor gear, b*tch was froze/seized and had to soak it overnight and "wiggle" it out with a prybar the next day. I'm not sure on the design but the new one might have a o ring on the base of the distributor, be sure to put a little grease on it and the install will be alot easier.

I have had to pick up the car with a engine hoist and beat on the distributor to get one out. Lots of penetrating oil and carb cleaner. Alternating between the two.

Evan,
how old was the ..n/m I read the post wrong, you said you had to pick up the car itself, not pick it up by the distributor.. hehe

um... are you guys really located this close to me? how have i NEVER seen your spot?

i've gotten to the point where i don't care, i just need this bitch to run again! i don't have the resources to do all that crazy ish like lift the car- i work in the parking lot with hand tools and do basic stuff.

is it possible you guys could help me out if i got my car towed there? i have the new distro in hand.

EDIT: as far as the mallet and stuff- i searched on vortex and that seemed to be the recommendation for a siezed distro. WD-40 and a mallet. not very easy to reach though. i tried prying as well but the space is tight.
