This morning I got in my car and started driving and within 30 seconds the red coolant temp light came on and beeped. My guage needle hadn't even lifted up any yet, so unless its screwed I dunno whats up. I turned the car off then on and the light went off and didn't come back, as I kept driving the temp went to 190 as usual and held there. I've never had the light come on before, thought it was kinda weird, especially since the engine was really cold. I figure it was just a random car spasm, any thoughts? :smack:

check your coolant just to make sure its not low
but you more than likely need a green top, 059 919 501a and n 903 168 02

I added some to just below the max line when I changed my oil on Thursday, and I have a green top  My car perplexes me with its not so silly jokes.:dunceblock:

i change the green top pritty often ...... It could be faulty . If the car is not overheating i would check for coolent leaks. And if there is none. Then i would change the green top again and see what happens after that.

just because you have a green top does not mean that it isnt going to fail as well

Would my coolant temp guage show normal temps even if it was failing?

The greentops can go bad.
The cluster water temp reading is picking up from a different source iirc.

Coolant temp doesnt go up until things are too late. The light comes on when the reservoir tank doesnt see a set level, but you probably still have enough fluid to keep things cool for a minute or too. I've had my light flashing at me more times than I'd like to admit and it always happened at startup, especially when I was chasing down a leak last fall. If you have any coolant/water in the system at all, the light will go off when the reservoir fills back up...if it doesnt go off after 2 minutes, then you have a problem.

Yeah...although I feel marginally retarded. I guess I got carried away doing something and forgot about it.
