I am about ready financially to start with engine mods on my 2000 1.8t jetta. I was going to originally go to BFI and get the APR program from them. But i have been hearing alot of good things about the GIAC program as well. I know that Absolute carries the GIAC program. Any local guys have experience with either of these shops or which chip to go with??
oh yea. i'm a noob:upyeah:

i would personally go with either revo (travis/de kroon) or giac (absolute)
both have top-notch customer support.

+1 for Revo(de kroon) or GIAC(evan@absolute) instead of APR. Both of these companies are represented on this forum and I am sure many others will chime in with their own personal experiences.

i am running GIAC and bought my car from Evan- I am thoroughly impressed.
Everyone on this forum that has ever gone to Evan's shop has good stories to tell.
That said, I would highly recommend Absolute and, as pinky said, either GIAC or revo. I have driven cars with all software mentioned in this thread and GIAC and revo feel the strongest and most comparable. APR isnt too far behind, but delivers a little smoother feel IMO and is more for convenience (wiper stalk crap)
if you want power i'd recommend GIAC or revo, hands down

de kroon is the owner/admin of this site.
the business is called Apex Tuning. he lives in greensboro, but comes to the raleigh area pretty regularly...

Travis, de kroon is his SN is located in Greensboro. You can pm him and I am pretty sure he would come to you and let you try out the demo flash if one is available. Not sure how your car would be chipped being that it's a 2000. For meaningless porn find your nearest watering hole or sorority house.:D

Sounds good. thanks for all the quick replies. I'll most likely go with GIAC because i am in Durham alot and would be easier to get to Evan's shop if i need to. Then hopefully going with exhaust after the chip. Let the modding begin boys

I am pretty sure because its a 2000 it has to be soldered on to the ecu. as opposed to just being flashed.

Kind of question posting in this thread myself but just wanted to say I'd love to do it for you and the 2000 is a flash now as well. We dont do it in the car we take the ecu out and flash it on the bench since the instrument clusters can't take in car flashing.

they are both good softwares and great people. I've had revo stage 1 , Stage2 and now stage3. That alone can tell you. See who is the closest to you and decide..

Apr is the only company that still has to remove and resolder the eeprom on the 2000 ECU types.
Evan provides great support hands down.
Revo or Giac all the way :oddeye-hellyeah:

Another thing to think about is swapping out that k03 for a k03s. I know there are at least 2 people on here with one of them lying around.

The kO3s came stock on the gli right? Would it make that much of a difference between my stock ko3??? I would consider this for sure. As long as its not crazy expensive to buy it off them. Let me know if you have there names and i'll check them out. Thanks for the tip

how much a difference are we talking here, after swapping for the k03s?

Since we covered the software.
Ko3 sport could be purchased from Ak-Abe, De Kroon, or myself. It would bolt right up using your stock oil and coolant lines. De Kroon(travis) also has a kinetic manifold for the turbo.

The k03s is like a hybrid k03/k04. It uses a k03 turbine and a k04 compressor. The upshot here is that the k03s will flow more air than the k03. Of course people will argue that if you're going to swap out the k03 for a k03s you might as well look for a k04-001. I'd expect maybe 15hp gain going from k03->k03s and maybe 25hp going k03->k04 with the proper software.

Another thumbs up for Absolute. After a bad experience or two with other shops in the area, Evan is the only person I will let touch my car :D
I also run GIAC and am very happy with the most recent X+ update.

AWD is just the engine code right? My car is a 2000 jetta 1.8t, so i'm assuming i have a AWW engine code? Or am I way off here. And does it matter if there different if all i want to do is swap turbo's.:dunceblock:

yes, AWD is just the engine code, and if you have a 2000 jetta (just like me) then you have the AWD. The AWD is different from the newer engines in small ways but the biggest difference is that it has the k03 and not the k03s, which these people are trying to sell.
The reason for confusion is I thought Yareka has a 2000 GTI with the AWD as well...

yareka's car is an 01
and the "biggest" difference is not the k03/k03s thing
there are several differences
coil packs....wideband vs narrowband o2...stock boost level...lots of things

Easiest way to tell is look on the passenger side of the engine. There should be a flat piece jutting out of the head (on the front side of the engine) near the timing belt cover. It'll have the engine code stamped on it (either AWD or AWW).

What is the silencer?
dekroon
August 2nd, 2006, 02:46 PM
The silencer is a piece that is made into the charge outlet of the k03s.
The ko3s versions with a silencer have a big buldge in the neck of the compressor housing.
