well after hearing the damn turbo bolt fall out again, i got home and decided to work on my car and its worse then expected. one of the bolts holding the turbo on fell out AGAIN and one was loose again. well the one that fell out is stripped out, so i guess i got some work on my hands this weekend. luckily i have the old 1973 BMW 2002 to drive.
P.s. Ian are you working saturday because i may need to pick up some parts either tomorrow or saturday?

well i got my turbo off today and on of the bolt holes that holds the tubo to the manifold was fucked and one of the studs that holds the down pipe to the turbo was broke. so the car is on jack stands in my garage and im gonna send the turbo out monday to motor master machine shop and get them to drill and tap a new hole and put a stud back in it. I may need some help putting the turbo back on when i get it back!! any takers???? oh and Ian im gonna call you at work monday or tuesday to order some new gaskets.

well after finishing my turbo install this morning i realize that i dont want to do that again on my time. i wouldnt mind doing it at work though being we have all the stuff to do it easily there. so i think by the end of this year im gonna go BT. i have talked it over with diane and i will have enough to get diane her ring and go BT. i think that im gonna go the T3s60 route like Abe. just need to start putting things together soon like a fuel pump and fmic to start.

well i may be going BT afterall. i finished putting the turbo on today and noticed that the turbo is leaking:( . so im gonna tow it to our shop in the morning and see if its gonna be a quick fix. if i have to take the turbo off again then im gonna go ahead and get a t3s60. if anyone can spill some info on the t3s60 that would help alot (like what is needed):oddeye-hellyeah:

evan@absolute
August 21st, 2006, 05:06 PM
what's leaking on the turbo? That's not usually how they fail. That's usually something external like an install issue. If they do leak it's the seals inside and so it smokes like hell instead of leaking to the outside.
TurboMatt
August 21st, 2006, 05:16 PM
its the banjo bolt from the coolant line that bolts to the turbo. im gonna see if i can fix it tonight, but if i have to take the turbo off then im gonna go BT. also another one of the bolt hole that holds the turbo on is fucked. and if i take it off it may strip. the turbo is on there nice now but its just that damn leak.
this is the email clay sent me:
Matt, you're going to need turbo, manifold, downpipe, inlet pipe,
injectors, vr6 maf housing, oil feed line, oil return line, install
hardware, fuel pump and a host of other things. The turbo hardware kit is
probably going to be around 1895USD shipped, then you'll need injectors
and a fuel pump. You can upgrade to the REVO big turbo software and that
should be good to get you going.
Cheers,

I know you already made the purchase but there are some really good deals in the vortex classifieds right now. Used isnt neccessarily the best route but if you get a good feeling about it and ask the right questions, you might be good to go. I bought my 28r kit for 900 last year around this time and just sold it for 850, and I kept most of the hardware it came with. Clay was very good to Abe about fixing mishaps along the way, and that makes things much easier. When I had mishaps, I had to wait for three day shipments from atp. In all honesty, I learned a hell of a lot more by piecing a kit together instead of buying a preassembled kit.
Different strokes:wanker: :D

Abe I cant guarantee things yet...but I think I may have found the problem to our idle issues. Try secondary air, n112, and n249. I removed all of these during my buildup and my idle is rock solid. I need to get the cel and readiness codes taken care of, but this may be the mod of the century on higher mileage cars.

Helke...I'll probably order a bunch of those 330ohm resistors, which wattage did you end up with. I keep hearing 5 or higher on all of those sensors will keep things happy. People keep mentioning simply pulling out the plug and crossing the wires to form a loop....any ideas on this. I might try it before the resistor?
Ian...you're always a step ahead of the ball game...but not all of us have the the little CEL helper behind us come emissions time. I have 9 months to get everything sorted so that shouldnt be a problem.

hehe...no clue yet, I've been good and only hit 5psi one time:unhappy-angel: . Will probably run wastegate pressure by next week. I have a few things to work out on the coolant/oil return lines. Right now, my oil return is cocked close to 45degrees, and I'm scared about cooking the center section at that drain angle. I got a new oil drain 45 piece yesterday so I'll be ready to take it apart again:gt-ogb-spank:
Friday I plan to do the 500mile interval oil change, reclock the turbo with the new fitting, wrap the dp, get the 28rs file from Travis....and possibly take her up to 14psi by mid next week.

Yareka
August 23rd, 2006, 09:27 AM
rock on matt. I never ran the green tops, most everyone and their mother has run them on their bt setups. Some bitch about the spray pattern...yaddayadda, but its a 440cc.
Did you get the kit from clay?
If not, You still need to think about:
Manifold. Talk to slappynuts @ boostfactory. Looking at 225/shipped.
Downpipe: Ask slappy(chuck) if they have a dp for their mani, they were looking into having a local shop make downpipes for them. Thats a much better route than ATP.
Inlet Pipe: ATP
Vr maf from Ian: w/ silicone piece to connect these: 3" to 2.5" transition
Various Oil and Coolant Fittings:
Oil Inlet restrictor
Oil Feed Line 4an
Oil Return flange on turbo and connector for oil return line(slip on or -an)
Return line flange on oilpan
Banjo bolts for coolant: x3 I'd use slip on fittings and 3/8" hose.

August 23rd, 2006, 10:21 AM
The ATP mani and Downpipe fitment on abes car had more clearance than the 2871/BF setup. The oil return was'nt an issue. Clocking the turbo was however.
Your probably going to have to make up a custom bracket to relocate the wastegate once the turbo is clocked properly. That and the inlet where the biggest problems in doing the t3s60 on abe's car.
I'd suggest going with the genesis injectors.
a4wdhybrid
August 23rd, 2006, 10:36 AM
i dont think the oil return was really an issue either...but it would be well worth the $$ to get -an lines/fittings and make a return as i would not trust the rubber hose/clamps that are sent w/ the kit
TurboMatt
August 23rd, 2006, 11:03 AM

the reason you would need a 3.5bar fpr would be if you are going to run the usrt 415's
415cc+3.5bar=440cc
(injectors are rated @ 3bar)

okay this is kind of a list: (check list)
T3s60 kit from clay
fuel pump
injectors-im gonna try the green giants and 3.5bar fpr
weld Down pipe on
FMIC (is the stock intercooler okay for a while??? i know kevin ran one)
boost controler ??? ill research them
eventually a turbo timer
Ak-Abe
August 23rd, 2006, 10:13 PM
concerning the boost controller. It all depends on how much you want to spend. if you are willing to spend close to 300 dollars. then go with the Greddy profec2B it is awesome i am loving it . if you are not, then go with a manual boost controller, where you can get from travis. Forge ones are good too, these are the ones that tarvis gets. It will be probably the cheapest way . Concerning turbo timers as well APexi has a really nice one which i am using i bought of ebay for 100 dollars and greddy has one too. GO with the APEXI lol . it looks better
TurboMatt
August 23rd, 2006, 10:16 PM
yeah i was considering that for a little while then going electronic?
a4wdhybrid
August 23rd, 2006, 11:14 PM
manual boost controller is fine for now...get an electronic when you get the extra $$...the forge one is nice..i run a cheap ebay mbc
those green giants are 440's..you'll only need a 3bar fpr them
the usrt (genesis) injectors are the 415's that will require a 3.5bar regulator
stock intercooler will be ok..ppl do it...you just wont be able to hammer boost out of it on a consistent basis...it will heatsoak and i imagine the stocker prob just doesnt provide enough flow for a lot of boost from a bt either
it is a total trial and error process and a huge learning curve...each car is different and responds differently to each addition...some of the stuff does apply acorss the board though :)
ive made tons of mistakes and have learned a lot about my car in the past year and a half its been bt
oh..and have fun putting that atp mani on :02gb-hammerit:
vr6 housing too

ive made tons of mistakes and have learned a lot about my car in the past year and a half its been bt
word:oddeye-hellyeah:
As far as the intercooler goes, I HAD to upgrade to a front mount and you will too. There is no way that atp downpipe is going to work with your stock charge pipe. Trust me, I tried. I had two different extensions welded on to the stock charge to attempt to move it over past the charge where it goes down. Any odd bend on those intercooler hoses will put a permanent kink in them once they heat up...but the main issue is theres just not enough clearance there. Ebay intercooler will do the trick.
I have a feeling I'll have to step up injectors at some point, I will probably be maxing out 440s with my setup and I'd like to be on the safe side. I might just try a 4bar fpr first since my idle is like butter now.
