Yeah....I went on a long trip today, and I kept thinking how awesome it would feel to have my 1.8T in my lap... err not actually. Right now I don't have the rebar on at all, and it kinda starting to freak me out when I'm driving. I've seen some people weld some tubing accross to the two sides of the rad support bar. Do any of you w/ greddy FMIC's still actually have any rebar in the center, or did you just cut it off all together and leave the two ends? I wanna figure something out kinda soon, I like my engine, but I'd rather it not be a permanent part of me.

No ideasss? I'm kind of toying with the idea of getting a smaller bar-plate core that won't require removing the rebar and using that...anyone know what size will fit pretty easily w/ the rebar intact?

tom, im not running a rebar either. i see your point in the safety aspect, i know abe and travis do not have one either. i think your best bet is to custom fab a bar to connect either side of whats left from the rebar.

Actually I'm running a full rebar. However it will probably get hacked. I'd suggest using the 2 end pieces at least. They support the radiator and firm up the front end when attached.

Depending on how much cleareance I have when notching the rebar, I might find some sort of bar or rod steel and weld it between the gap.

I have heard of radiators sagging from not having any rebar in as well.. Hoods not latching, etc..

Tyrolsport SMIC > FMIC
It's only better than a few of the FMICs out there. Mainly the APR,Forge, and EVOms.
If it came with better piping to replace the factory crap piping it would be a better alternative than a fmic.
thom's kit cost marginally less than a tyrolsport FMIC.

Im sure evoms or any other company wants an assload for their rebar. I'd just do what was mentioned above. Pull your bumper off one day and roll out to the exhaust shop with a metal rod...have them weld it to the rebar and you'll be able to sleep better. I plan on doing this before too long...if the car gets moving soon.:mong:
