My odometer would stop working intermittently about two weeks ago so I found some information online on how to fix it. What's interesting is that while it was apart to glue the slipping gear, I found that I could reset the mileage to whatever I wanted to. This was news to me but maybe not to some of you; it's extremely easy to do. Hope to get to 225,000 miles by December!

So far it's working (knock on wood). I messed up the first time & inadvertently glued the rightmost number to the shaft so I was gaining 10 miles for every mile I drove! Had to ream out the rightmost gear & then reglue the grey gear again to the shaft. As long as the 1/10th tripmeter section turns continuously I know it's working; the gear was slipping intermittently so it was still somewhat snug on the shaft; the crazy glue I used seemed to hold the gear in pretty well. I would eventually like to get another speedo cluster because my speedo needle is reading way too high, I couldn't see a way to fix that though. I just need a reliable repair for another couple of years. What type of adhesive did you use that it didn't holdup & how long would it last before failing again.

i used an industrial super glue called accubond. that shit holds anything to anything. so i dont know.

you can probably just adjust your needle on the speedo. unless you are running 12's.

Or the gear on the cable, what tranny are you running? diff from stock?

Tranny is original, cluster is original, engine is original. The inaccurate speedometer (+20 mph & it jumps around a lot, I judge speed via the tach & gear I'm in) started 9 years ago after I moved to Milwaukee which has shitty roads w/ huge craters, a lowered car & pockmarked roads = trouble; the slipping odometer started about one month ago. I'd never had any trouble prior to moving to Milwaukee on the smooth roads in Calif. I haven't inspected the gear in the tranny carefully but the odometer seems accurate now so I believe the gear in the tranny is ok.

re the speedo reading wrong. look below the needle rest on the gauge face, there is another white hash mark. remove your needle, and reinstall it at that position, then carefully lift it over the needle rest. it should read correctly then. the needle has some tension on it at the rest if installed correctly via this method.
