Small MAP sensor VS. Large Map sensor

I tried putting in a SMIC from a 2002 1.8T on my 2003 today and noticed they changed MAP sensors when they changed SMIC's. Can an old, larger MAP sensor be plugged in and used on a car that came with a newer, smaller one?

Someone on vortex said their car ran like dookie after swapping. My other option is a filler ring that I can fit into the larger hole on the SMIC that fits the smaller sensor.. mounting holes match up too.

I found it but I'm not sure which one I used for my maf...it includes both. I have an aww 01 if that helps...so I'm pretty sure you need the one I didnt use. I work/live in cary so give me a ring if you need it.
