ok, on my way home my airconditioner stopped working. It still blows out air but its hot. Next, my check engine light came on and i noticed my engine temp. was very hot. Opened the hood and there is fluid all over the front of the engine bay. any takers on whats going on???? :smack: :dunceblock:

Was the CEL flashing or did it just illuminate?

The AC could be a fan control module..

Sounds like a coolant hose popped, or did you recently have a green top installed? That could of blown off.

cel just illuminated. does sound like maybe a coolant hose. would explain the high engine temp. and fluid in the bay?

hose popped off or your coolant sensor popped out. Fill your reservoir up with water and crank it up...look for the source.

How easily does this happen? I have a new one I haven't installed yet and sprung the extra 25cents for the new clip.

Yea i'm still at work kevin but its not my car its the fiances car. Same car though basically just a little newer than mine. So would the coolant hose and/or sensor make the engine run hot and make the ac stop blowing cold air??? I'll play with it tonite i guess.

Thanks for lookin out guys:upyeah:

if the engine starts to overheat the ecu shuts the compressor off which in turn would make the a/c stop working

and if a bose burst and/or the sensor popped out that would make the car overheat

brett...guarantee thats it...find your loose hose and you're all set. Just run water through the system until you source the leak.

green tops @ $32...wtf. Hell, lets buy up every last one and startup greentopsforlessgreen.com

Your A/C compressor is toasted :mong: get ready buy a new one, also the car may need a new water pump or a new thermostat

thats a pretty large hike on an item that most people need to change more frequently than they think. You'd sit on them for ahwile but once you sold a third...it would be gravy from there. sorry just rambling in my head.

Ian(A4wdhybrid) just mentioned that the ac compressor is shut off if the vehicle over heats. That's standard strategy for any car. Why do you think his compressor is toasted?

evan@absolute

I would go with what Travis said I think. bet its the fan or fan control unit. If the fan doesn't work the a/c won't work for long and then the coolant will all boil and shoot out the cap.

Ok, may be the compressor is not toasted :happyspin: it may be is just a leak in the a/c system

The best way to check if the compressor works or not before taking it to the stealership is starting the car and turning the a/c on, if you can hear the compressor kicking on and the clutch engages, if it does engages then you may have a leak in the system or just need R134A

just thought this needed to be reiterated.
